Session Ident: #crossfire
[20:58] * Now talking in #crossfire
[21:05] South Vancouver's docks were bustling as ever when the four regulars of Vitriolic solutions met up with their new comrade. It was a bit strange to meet someone they only knew through MercsList: "m4m plz bring own guns, explosives and/or sea ops expertise."
[21:06] "Who placed that ad in anyway? We didn't need anyone last time."
[21:06] While they waited for him, they also had a chance to inspect their new property. A so-far-unnamed cargo ship. Several suspicious bullet holes and oddly fresh paint suggested that she was the spoils of some piracy operation, but everything looked like she'd perform admirably.
[21:07] "Do you know anything about heavy explosives? Do you really want me to be handling some Hi-X?
[21:08] "I still think my rockets could deal with that ship from the shore."
[21:09] "It wouldn't work, we need a shaped charge to blast through that hull at all, and a rocket's charge is way too dispersed and not nearly powerful enough. Anyway, I think the loss in XP per party member is acceptable enough to have an extra gun and/or demo expert on hand."
[21:10] "I take it that's my cue."
[21:10] "But I guess doing this mission is kinda important, did you see that tank the FEL is making available?"
[21:10] * Mercury checks his watch and glances around the dock right on time for the new mercenary to show up. "Oh, hi. Okay, what was the passphrase... 'Texas'?"
[21:11] * Jaques looks over to Rudolf, taking a deep breath of his smoke.
[21:11] "'Texas' it is. Good evening."
[21:11] * Marik chugs from a bottle of vodka, and looks the new arrival up and down. He proffers the bottle, by way of greeting
[21:11] "Don't mind if I do."
[21:12] A dramatic sunset paints the sides of buildings and the surface of the water in vivid oranges and violets.
[21:12] "That's not how a challenge works, but screw it, I forget the answer anyway. So, you are in fact the mercenary interested in the job."
[21:12] * Jaques seems inspired by the scene and makes a mental note to make a note of it
[21:13] "That is correct. I happen to fit the description of what you needed on the internet."
[21:14] * Jaques takes another thug of his smoke.
[21:15] "Don't die on your first day. You are going in hard to prove ur worth."
[21:15] * Marik smiles. He can trust anyone who can take their drink. He offers a hand "Marik, Pleased to meet you"
[21:15] * Rudolf introduces self, notes areas expertise, particularly demolition
[21:15] "Alright. Uh, let's see. I'm Mercury. What's your equipment loadout, usually?" Mercury eyes the guy up and down for anything he'd find interesting, before being immediately distracted by a passing butterfly."\
[21:16] * Shogo_Oshi remains standing some distance from their new colleague, greeting him by way of a bow. "Wercome, Ruudorf-san," he intones politely, adjusting his glasses.
[21:16] "I am not particularly well armed. I normally use an old pistol," flashes Walther
[21:16] "We have something inside that you'll want to use."
[21:17] "I hope I will not have to use it unless necessary."
[21:17] * Marik grins "Old is best, eh?" He draws out a very, very fine magnum, covered with engravings on both metal and wood
[21:17] "...Oh. Right, yes, that should do. I assume you brought a demolition charge or two."
[21:17] * PurpleXVI is now known as PurpleGM
[21:17] "Naturally. It would be impolite to come to a party without a present"
[21:17] "I'll go get it, wait here."
[21:17] "Nah, we'll all go in."
[21:18] * Jaques shuffles inside via the back door, putting out his sigarette as he does.
[21:18] * Mercury motions for the team to follow him onto the boat as he gets onto the gangplank for the rather lengthy tanker. "Bring your stuff."
[21:18] * Rudolf joins group on their way aboard.
[21:18] * Marik lugs his cases- one for guns and armour, one for vodka. It was a long voyage after all.
[21:19] * Jaques shuffles back outside with the M9 and heads up the freighter
[21:20] * Shogo_Oshi is the last one to board the ship, ever attentive in case there's someone watching them even now.
[21:20] If they lead Rudolf to the bridge, they find a small sticky-note attached to the instruments by the Sea Wolf who sold them the ship: "It's bad luck to set out to sea on an unnamed ship."
[21:22] "Looks like old naval traditions are still alive after all. Huh."
[21:22] * Rudolf picks up the note "Heh, the gentlemen are obviously not yet able and tried seamen."
[21:24] * Jaques heads down the first set of stairs he can find and notes the green floors.
[21:24] "So, anybody got any ideas for a name?"
[21:25] * Shogo_Oshi shrugs, looking around the bridge. "We wait with painting untir rater, yes? For now, the ship is Kihada."
[21:25] * Jaques wanders around the interiour, notes that the comm bead in his ear stops functioning after passing a certain mark. He brushes his hands across the wall.
[21:26] "'Kihada'? What's that mean in Engli- ooh, they even have a full set of semaphore flags!"
[21:27] "Oh my, are there national flags? I always wanted to go to sea under an obsolete flag."
[21:27] * Shogo_Oshi turns toward the staircase leading toward the interior decks, intent on getting to know the lay-out as well. "Tuna."
[21:27] * Marik thinks for a moment "I no good with names. Only names in polish, and then, no one would understand".
[21:27] * Jaques sets himself down and pulls out an HB pencil and some pieces of paper.
[21:29] "Huh. That'll do, I suppose. Only national flags here are... Saudi Arabian? I probably don't wanna know, do I."
[21:30] "Haha, Panama! We simply must go to battle under this."
[21:31] "Anyway, call me on the bead when you need me to start up the engine. I think my new helicopter's abovedecks- a Bell 407, if I heard right.
[21:32] * Marik wanders off to find a good drinkingn hole
[21:32] * Rudolf makes a serious expression towards the group. "Gentlemen, I have hit the motherlode." Rudolf shows the group the PRoO flag
[21:33] * Jaques draws the upper section of the paper. The sun is setting with the freighter blocking half of it, the slightly reflective edge of the ship makes it seem as the light is shattering across it. lower section: The view is set from the top of their warehouse. Rudolf is seen walking towards the group dockside. Mariks magnum glissens slightly. Jaques' smoke seems to release a chimney of smoke.
[21:35] A small tab on the side of the PRoO flag says: "Made in China."
[21:35] * Shogo_Oshi spends a while walking through the ship's interior, familiarising himself with the deck plan. He deposits his accumulated gear in an appropriately sized cabin, then returns to the bridge afterwards, gazing out at the waves lit by the sunset. He's wearing a Hawaii shirt.
[21:35] * Rudolf smirks knowingly while raising the flag
[21:36] * Jaques works franticly to put mind to paper
[21:37] "Good then, if we've all gotten ourselves accomodated and stred volatile and easily breakable materials in safety," glances at Marik, "someone could explain today's plan of attack to me."
[21:37] Reaching the top deck, Mercury lays his eyes upon his brand-new helicopter- the venerable and reliable Bell 407, the AK of the rotorcraft world, still in active production. The outside is coloured in muted naval blues and blacks, with the inside suitably decorated. "Oh, wow. I can't wait to take this for a spin."
[21:39] It's a good thing the ship is so heavily automated, or the five of them might never have gotten it out of the harbor. But as it is, it smoothly makes its way out towards more open waters as night falls, and then follows the coastline north.
[21:39] Climbing into the back, he checks out the seats. It has standard-configuration ergonomic seats and black belts, complete with complementary noise-cancelling communication systems racked into the ceiling. It takes Mercury half a minute to realize that instead of the customary five seats in the back, there are two.
[21:40] Also, a cup holder. But it has extra space anyway, the better to snipe with.
[21:40] A few hours before they reach their destination, they notice that heavy fog is gathering along the coast. It's the figurative "pea soup" where you're lucky to be able to tell if you're walking on the deck or off it.
[21:40] "Quite literally the 'fog of war' we have here, eh?"
[21:42] * Marik sits at the highest point of the ship, drinking and singing a few polish sea shanties
[21:42] * Mercury makes it back onto the bridge. "This'll probably make for close combat- can't see a thing through this fog even with the thermals, it's too warm." He gets to work 'configuring' his M21.
[21:43] "Wouldn't want to fly in this weather, either. Probably could do it IFR, but with the opposition around that might not be such a good idea."
[21:44] * Rudolf goes to the bow of the ship, takes a swig of rum and join sea shanty in german
[21:44] * Jaques heads back up just in time to hear Mercurys comment. "Besides, they have anti-aircraft stuff."
[21:44] "If we can, we should steal those."
[21:45] "Also, you know where we are heading Mercury?"
[21:45] "What, you mean the 40mm? Probably wouldn't even be able to see me in this weather, even if they cought us through radar, or sonar, or lidar."
[21:46] "I'm pretty sure they can take out a rather slow copter."
[21:46] "And- no, I didn't start the ship up, I was busy with the copter. Wait. I'm here, Rudolf is here, you're here... and... wait, who's piloting this thingN?"
[21:47] "And on that note, who the hell started up the engine?" Mercury starts to make a run for the helm.
[21:47] "Wait, what? Does it have an AI or something? I read something about that in the news."
[21:46] * Marik 's drunken voice comes from the bridge
[21:47] * Shogo_Oshi squints into the dense fog from his position on the bridge, having been informed that using active radar might alert their quarry to their presence prematurely. He frowns. "Rooks unsafe to navigate rike this. I shourd go keep a rookout." - He makes to return to his cabin to retrieve his gear and put on a coat.
[21:48] * Jaques joins Merc and Marik on the bridge and watches Shogo go down the stairs.
[21:48] * Rudolf puts on swimming gear
[21:48] "We are going to lose ourself in this thing"
[21:49] Marik can hear other voices than his drunken own. It looks like the radio system the Sea Wolves hooked them up with also happens to be able to pick up military communications: "This is the VDFN Maple Leaf calling Coastal. We're spotting something big and ugly on the radar, anything meant to be in our area?"
[21:49] "Aw bollocks. Better get started."
[21:50] "RUDOLF! Where the fuck are you?"
[21:50] * Marik gets on the tannoy "Nearly go time, my friends. A toast to victory!". He drinks until a bottle is empty, then hurls it into the air with a roar.
[21:50] "Luckily for us, this thing has passive and active sonar. And- yep, that's probably our que." Mercury makes sure all running lights are off and that the ship is pointed in generally the right direction, and cuts the engine.
[21:50] * Rudolf exits changing cabin, "Ready as can be!"
[21:51] * Marik stashes his bags away, wrapping his guns in a watertight bag and pulling on the oversized wetsuit. He looks sadly at his armour, but knows bringing it along would be a Bad idea.
[21:51] [VDF Coastal] "Negative, Maple Leaf. Someone might've gotten lost in the fog. Check for radio contact and investigate." [VDFN Maple Leaf] "Got it, Coastal. We're calling them now."
[21:51] * Shogo_Oshi heads onto the deck after suiting up and proceeds to the bow. He scans into the mist, alternating between looking through his scope and just looking unaided into the obscured horizon.
[21:51] The radio is now buzzing with a bunch of requests for the Kihada to identify itself, change its course and generally show that it knows someone is trying to get its attention.
[21:52] "I'm loving this new SharpEye radar system, it even has a new enha- oh, yeah, we're getting hailed." Mercury hits the mute on the VHF bands so he doesn't have to listen to the buzzing.
[21:53] Shogo thinks he can spot some lights in the fog, practically straight ahead, but still some distance away. Between the night and the pea soup, however, he can't be entirely sure.
[21:53] "Remember guys, we'll be out of radio contact while you guys are underwater and shit and inside the ship. Just wait for the signal."
[21:54] "The signal is people shooting."
[21:54] * Mercury checks the fancy new radar system to make sure that they're still on a collision course. "Isn't it always."
[21:55] "Try to get the VIP back alive. Him not being alive is sort of not a good idea.
[21:56] The passive radar says they're going to neatly impact the hind half of the Maple Leaf if neither military vessel or cargo ship move out of the way.
[21:57] About ten minutes to impact, most of the fake mines Jacques spent all night welding together(artistically) are already in the water, too.
[21:57] * Rudolf puts finishing touches on wetsuit, gets watertight bag with stuff, prepares outside for diving
[21:57] "Oh. Right. Make sure all the watertight doors are closed and hold on to something, we're gonna crash. General Quarters and all that.
[21:58] * Mercury contemplates hitting the button for the klaxon to sound the traditional General Quarters pattern, but thinks better of it.
[21:59] [VDFN Maple Leaf] "Aw shit, Coastal, looks like we've got a ghost ship. No response on any bands. Probably got hit by the Sea Wolves or Nautilus and left to drift. We're going to send a boarding party over to check for survivors."
[21:59] * Jaques Makes star trek alarm noises over intercom for a couple of seconds.
[21:59] * Rudolf turns to Marik, "How does your shotgun feel about close quarters?"
[21:59] "Couldn't helpmyself."
[21:59] * Marik grins "It feels Good"
[21:59] "Try not to do that again, it might give away our position and kill us all."
[22:00] On the radar, Mercury can see that the Maple Leaf is moving out of the way of the Kihada, apparently not intending to get rammed. It looks to be attempting to get itself alongside the Kihada's starboard side, between it and the coast.
[22:00] "Let's go through the soon-to-be breach. I trust everyone will be occupied with the deck."
[22:00] * Mercury makes sure his rifle is all set and puts on his thermal goggles , hoping it can see through the fog.
[22:00] * Marik nods "Lead the way"
[22:00] "Uh, wait, they're changing course. Apparently they don't want to get hit."
[22:00] "Correct course, then."
[22:01] "Better get a move on guys" Jaques says as he passes the two suiting up.
[22:01] * Rudolf is prepared, jumps as soon as Marik is ready
[22:02] "Not such a good idea, we'll blow our cover. I'll hold down the boat with Shogo, you guys get a move-on.
[22:02] "Let them come, we will be ready."
[22:02] "Also, I'd rather not dent the ship."
[22:03] * Rudolf drops into the cold wet, dives in direction target hull
[22:03] "Oh, and watch out for that fifty-cal, it'll tear you apa- oops. Uh-oh."
[22:03] * Marik follows Rudolf, apparently used to falling into cold water while rather drunk
[22:06] The Maple Leaf is now rather clearly in view. It looks like a rather boring coastal defense vessel and is sweeping the starport side of the Kihada with a searchlight, someone's on a megaphone: "This is the Maple Leaf to unnamed shipping vessel! Is anyone aboard?"
[22:07] During this rather slow pass of the two ships, Rudolf and Marik swim under the dark hull of the Kihada and soon find themselves between it and the Maple Leaf. No spotlights hitting the sea, no gunfire piercing the water to hit them. It seems like they're still unseen.
[22:07] * Rudolf gets to work on the hull
[22:07] * Marik regrets that, while he is underwater, he cannot drink, and idly contemplates a mechanism which would allow him to do so
[22:08] * Jaques holds his head low
[22:10] Jaques, Mercury and Shogo can hear the chatter from the Maple Leaf by now. "Looks like no one's answering, captain." "Alright, boarding team, ready! I want that ship stopped and searched, and I want to know what happened to the crew." Followed by a series of Canadian-accented affirmatives.
[22:10] Attaching explosives to the Maple Leaf's hull is the work of barely a minute for Rudolf.
[22:11] * Rudolf gets into safe blasting distance, waits for signal
[22:12] * Shogo_Oshi keeps himself to low to the deck, hidden behind a container or ventilation duct, trying to observe when and where the boarders board.
[22:12] * Marik gets slightly further away than Rudolf, considering himself a potentially volatile substance with all the booze in his blood
[22:13] * Mercury camps in a corner of the helm, Counter-Strike style
[22:14] There's a clanging and clatter as grappling hooks go over the side of the Kihada, are dragged back and hook themselves on. Shogo and Jaques can hear the grunting of men climbing up the ropes below. It's also little challenge for Shogo to conceal himself in the heavy fog and amid the labyrinth of containers that've been left behind on the deck(mostly containing old Adidas shoes, they checked.).
[22:14] should I try the dead body trick?
[22:16] * Jaques quickly works up the disguise of a dead body, checks the location of shogo with a nod, sets his weapons not too far under some ropes and lies face down.
[22:17] Two groups of four men make it up to the deck, none of them appear to be wearing heavy body armour, but all are carrying flashbangs at their belts and submachineguns are rapidly produced once they're on the deck. The leader makes a bunch of tacticool gestures and handily supplements them with spoken orders: "Alright, first squad, we're headed up to the bridge. Second squad, go check the cargo hold. Keep an eye out for survivors."
[22:18] * Shogo_Oshi stalks after the team heading for the bridge, slowly closing the distance as they near the door leading inside.
[22:21] Squad one comes across Jaques at the entrance to the bridge itself, at the top of the stairs, his weapons concealed under a nearby bundle, Mercury lurking within the bridge itself and Shogo a silent shadow just a few twists of the staircase below them. "Survivor!" The leader calls out, and directs the one who's apparently a medic towards Jaques. [Cont]
[22:21] As the others shift uneasily behind the medic, he checks Jaques over in a variety of slightly uncomfortable ways, including shining a light into his eyes, "Just unconscious, might be in shock." One of the guys towards the back of the group turns around and looks down the stairs, "I don't like this, it feels like we're being watched... I could swear I heard something behind us."
[22:23] * Mercury does his best not to make a sound- he's got no clear shot from here, and judging from the 'sound' Shogo is probably advancing on them.
[22:23] While the medic checks over Jaques for any wounds to bandage, the leader starts chattering with whoever's in charge back on the Maple Leaf: "One survivor so far, bridge structure looks empty otherwise, no word from team two yet, they're heading for the cargo bay."
[22:23] A couple of silent tacticool movements directs the so-far-silent fourth member of the team towards the bridge itself.
[22:27] Carefully, carefully, the soldier approaches the entrance to the bridge. Presses himself against the wall to the right of the door, scanning the room and not noticing Merc, then steps inside. There's a perilous moment where he's facing away from the mercenary and then Merc notices tension and sees that he's about to swing around and face the corner.
[22:29] The two of them move at exactly the same time, the difference in height meaning that Merc ends up with the silenced barrel of a gun pressed against his groin and the soldier ends up with a pistol pressed against his forehead. Eyes locked. SPECIAL MOMENT. Judging by the sharp intakes of breath from above, Shogo can hear that shit is about to get REAL.
[22:30] * Shogo_Oshi bolts from the shadows, his sword clearing its scabbard in one smooth motion to slash at the squad leader fellow and whoever is unfortunate enough to stand next to him..
[22:31] * Jaques lets his eyes roll and starts twitching
[22:32] * Jaques lets his hand flow towards his knife while he twtiches
[22:35] Shogo is a wizened, Asian blur that flows like air. The soldier nearest him on the stairs sweeps the barrel of his silenced submachinegun across him, depressing the trigger, but by some BIZARRE TWIST OF FATE every single bullet is deflected by Shogo's katana, smacking harmlessly into the wall. [Cont]
[22:36] No such beneficial twists of fate as he dances into the fray, however, the nearest soldier ducks, getting his weapon sliced in half, and Shogo ends up with his sword pressed tip-first against the leader's ribcage, gun barrel pointed at his own torso. [Cont]
[22:36] Just at this moment, Jaques decides to start drawing his knife. Somehow the medic gets out his own just in time for both of them to be threatening the other's vital parts with something sharp and metallic. Shit is TENSE.
[22:38] * Mercury 's mind races as he tries to think of something to do to break the stalemate. Something unexpected, but that wouldn't make him pull the trigger. Think, Mercury, think...
[22:39] His counter-strike instincts take over as time slows down and everything becomes sharper as he prepares to unleash his distraction-
[22:39] "LOL N00B FAG!!!"
[22:41] The soldier looks for a moment confused, then suddenly very, very pissed off, "Hey! You're that guy that killed me in Battlefield 5942 yesterday! You're a PIRATE? Wallhacking scum!"
[22:42] MEANWHILE, LIKE FIVE FEET AWAY.
[22:43] "That wasn't a damn wallhack, I keep telling you that server's modded to have bullet penetration!"
[22:44] Jaques and the medic attack at the same time, Jaques rolls out of the way as the medic's knife slams into the metal floor, then retaliates. A beautiful arcing blow from above that should've taken the soldier's head off, but CLANG. He parries with his own knife. Almost stumbling over the soldier Mercury is facing off with, the two of them fence their way unto the bridge where there's way more room for melee combat, sparks shooting with every impact.
[22:45] To a background of nerds yelling at each other and metal impacting metal, Shogo can hear a mumbling voice at the other end of his target's communications gear. And then the more audible reply: "...yeah, we found someone."
[22:45] OUTSIDE, IN THE WATER. Marik and Rudolf aren't hearing any gunfire, but they can see the flashes from the TOTALLY BADASS IMPACTS as Jaques and the medic fight.
[22:46] * Shogo_Oshi glowers at the man through glasses fastened to his head by one of those awfully unfashionable rubber band things. "This was unexpected." - Before he finishes uttering the last word, he spins around, trying to deflect the SMG's barrel pressed up against his clothes, and brings his sword down for another strike.
[22:46] * Marik taps Rudy on the shoulder, and points at the bomb
[22:47] * Rudolf pushes the button and rejoices at the underwater explosion
[22:50] Shogo moves! Like the flash of lightning, the guy's gun is flipped into the air, he backs off, hands raised to ward off a blow from the sword and SWOOSH, SWOOSH, Shogo's sword is a blur. His hands come off, they're going into the air as well. BAM. Just as they're in front of his head, wrists gushing like blood hoses, Shogo thrusts and shish-kebobs the guy's hands and head on his sword in one move. [Cont]
[22:51] He hears the guy behind him starting to move, maybe reaching for a sidearm, a flashbang or his knife. That won't do. Look upward, gun still up there, just about reached its apex. Shogo withdraws his sword and strikes the SMG with the hilt of his weapon, smacking it backwards and jamming the silencer into the guy behind him's mouth.
[22:51] Then he spins and presses the trigger. Splat.
[22:52] Then the deck shakes like crazy because Rudolf just set off a Hi-X charge not far from the hull. Jaques and his enemy both struggle to remain on their feet, while Mercury topples from his perch on to the guy in front of him. Both of them end up on the floor fighting over Mercury's pistol.
[22:53] DOWN IN THE WATER, WITHIN THE DARK SEA. There's now a pretty big hole in the side of the Maple Leaf, under water. Above water people are running back and forth, some guys fell over the side, one dude had his head sliced off by flying shrapnel. The Navy ship's wobbling in the water, already starting to list a bit.
[22:54] * Marik swims towards the hole as fast as polishly possible
[22:56] * Rudolf follows, holding on to his bag of goodies
[22:58] CLANG, CLANG. Jaques and the medic face off again, knives smacking into each other, a perilous moment where their crossbars jam together and they're all up in each others' faces looking intense. Then they release, twist and slash, backing off as soon as they feel their weapons strike home! The medic has a red line carved across his left cheek, a new scar if he survives, [cont]
[22:58] Jaques has a hole carved in his shirt that would've disembowelled him if not for his body armor.
[23:00] "Interesting"
[23:01] * Shogo_Oshi drops the SMG, rushing to Jacques' aid - he hardly has time to pick off the two dismembered hands still stuck to his sword, lending him a both grisly and comical countenance all at once.
[23:01] Marik and Rudolf manage to make their way inside the shredded hole in the side of the listing vessel. Due to the damage and smoke, it takes them a couple of moments to figure out just what the blew a hole in, but it looks like they're inside the engine room now. The place reeks of smoke and fuel, and there are a couple of corpses floating on the water already.
[23:01] Only seems to be one door further on, leading fore-wards.
[23:02] * Rudolf taps Marik on the shoulder and points at door
[23:03] * Marik nods and advances, pulling his shotgun out of his bag, and also a small bottle of vodka, which he takes a swig from, then puts away. He flattens himself against the door, closes his eys, then opens it, going through gun first.
[23:05] * Rudolf pulls out the SMG, kindly provided by the great folks at Vitriolic Solutions, attaches silencer/surpressor.
[23:07] Mercury wraps his arms around the soldier to do something TOTALLY METAL to him but realizes halfway through it that his pipe-cleaner arms can't actually pull it off. He does manage to pin the guy's arms down so he can't shoot him, however, and just gets a forehead smashing into his nose instead.
[23:08] Marik opens the door leading into the rest of the ship, ankle-deep water rapidly flooding into the corridor ahead and almost bowling a couple of technicians over who're headed for the engine room. They stop in their tracks next to the stairs they've just descended, gaping open-mouthed at Rudolf and Marik.
[23:09] Behind them the corridor continues forwards, it looks like it might run all the way to the fore of the ship.
[23:10] * Marik speaks very slowly and carefully, with the auto-shotgun pointed towards the techs "If you move, you die. If you shout, you die. If you reach for a weapon, you die. If you get down on your knees, you might live. Choose"
[23:10] * Rudolf waits for the speech to end, then starts counting down from 5.
[23:12] * Shogo_Oshi feels he has far too little time to warn Jacques to get out of the way, and instead relies on his ninja skillz and comparatively small size as he dashes toward the two knife-fighters, aiming to slide and roll between Jacques' legs and come up to slash the medic man dramatically in two.
[23:12] One guy drops to his knees in the water before Rudolf gets to 4, folding his hands behind his head. The other guy seems unsure about what to do, shifting his weight from one leg to the other and then suddenly making a dive for the safety of the stairwell. Unfortunately he stumbles and doesn't dodge Marik's excellent reflexes, the shot practically tears off his left arm.
[23:12] "Ah well. At least one of you has some sense."
[23:13] * Marik sighs "I don't particularly enjoy hurting people, but I will" he looks down to the surrendered tech "Help your friend. He might survive. If I see you again, I will kill you. Go hide somewhere". Without another world, he begins walking down the corridor
[23:14] * Rudolf checks the two gentlemen for weapons, continues
[23:15] BACK ON THE BRIDGE there is badass action to be had. Shogo's slide ruins the medic's attack, but he easily dodges Shogo with a sideways roll, landing on one knee at the end of it. He twists sideways and parries Jaques downwards stab, using the force of it to roll again, this time towards the fore of the bridge. SILVER FLASH.
[23:15] He throws his knife through the nearest window, it shatters and he leaps towards it, grabs a hold of the edge and lets himself drop several stories towards the top of a container below.
[23:16] "Interesting."
[23:16] BACK ON THE MAPLE LEAF. The terrified tech remains on his knees as Rudolf and Marik walk past, neither of them are armed. Once they're past, he rushes to help his friend, who looks like he's pretty badly messed up. [Cont]
[23:17] Signs up ahead indicate that they're headed towards the brig, a small clinic for the ship's doctor and an armory. In that order, and on the left, right and left side of the corridor, respectively.
[23:18] * Marik thinks "We should check the brig, but we should destroy the armoury. The crew will be less of a threat"
[23:18] "I agree. First let's check the brig. If the target is there, go ahead and take the armory, I'll get the objective out."
[23:20] * Marik nods, and continues forward.
[23:21] * Rudolf covers corridor with SMG while Marik enters brig
[23:22] Shogo's 70-year-old heart is pumping furiously, and he leaps out the broken window in pursuit of the escaping boarder. There's something familiar, something nostalgic about this...
[23:22] The brig door is even heavier than the other bulkhead doors, and it takes some effort from even the hulking Marik to get it open. The interior looks uncomfortably like a surgical theater, with tiled walls and something resembling a dentist's chair in the middle. A variety of "tools" are scattered on the floor, presumeably by the force of the impact. [Cont]
[23:22] * Jaques heads out quickly and prepares his molotov
[23:22] Smith is sitting in the chair, eyes completely glazed over, but still alive. Someone dressed like a doctor is lying in one corner, the blood on the tiles suggests that the impact caused him to stumble and slam his head into the wall.
[23:23] There are a couple of cells on one side of the room, but they're both empty, and a number of syringes filled with a yellowish liquid prepared for use.
[23:24] "Aw christ. You call this a torture chamber?" Rudolf walks past the syringes, "and what do we have here?"
[23:25] * Rudolf goes to the doctor, checks for vital signs
[23:26] Jaques is off the bridge first, heading down the stairs to a ledge with a siderail just below the bridge. Shogo's leap is dramatically backlit as Mercury yanks the ring out of the soldier's flashbang, which results in tremendous noise, tremendous light and(once Mercury's hearing returns) quite a bit of screaming and the smell of singed skin and back hair.
[23:26] The guy's thrown Merc off and is currently thrashing on the floor. He's coincidentially also managed to drop his SMG.
[23:27] Shogo lands on the container, crouching dramatically before he rises. The medic has retreated to the other end of the container and is standing in what looks like a stereotypical unarmed martial arts stance. He's got SOMETHING in his hands, concealed, but Shogo can't quite make out what...
[23:27] * Marik narrows his eyes. He turns to Rudolph "Help him", gesturing to Smith. He walks over to the fallen doctor, dragging him to his feet, and putting his magnum to his head. He starts speaking in polish, slowly and solemnly, almost like a prayer. Then he pulls the trigger. "No mercy for butchers". He drops the body to the floor.
[23:27] "Well that renders him useless. And how are we feeling today Mr. Smith?"
[23:29] Smith sounds remarkably lucid when he replies, if somewhat tired: "I'm awful, I can't see my own hands. They're right in front of my face, aren't they?" Smith's hands are, in fact, strapped to the armrests and his body is as limp as a sock puppet, his head lolls back and forth as he speaks.
[23:30] * Shogo_Oshi takes a moment to dislodge the hands from his sword, then sheathes it, figuring that the slick container top necessitates an extra measure of balance. He adopts a karate stance of his own and squints at the man on the other side (*camera zooms in*), walking toward him.
[23:31] * Marik glances at Rudolph "Need any help? Or should I go for the armoury?"
[23:32] Outside, Jaques sends a flaming projectile across the sea and smash into the windows of the Maple Leaf's bridge as a present. There's quite a bit of chaos on the deck down there, and now there's even more. He notices several disagreeable-looking types getting out assault rifles and trying to get a bead on him, however, another throw might be more perilous.
[23:33] It's hard to determine much about the syringes just from their colour, but Rudolf spots the remnants of a shattered glass jar next to them. Judging by the name on the label, this is one of those highly dubious "truth drugs."
[23:34] * Jaques calls out "MEDIIIC, I HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU!"
[23:35] A BRIEF MARTIAL ARTS INTERLUDE ON THE KIHADA.
[23:36] * Mercury brings his foot down square on the head of the poor burned soldier, sandwiching his head between the metal floor and his soled foot. He's lucky the floor is metal, because as it turns out Mercury is not really strong enough to do a stomp unassisted. There's a brief 'SMACK' as the soldiers' head hits the floor.
[23:36] Shogo and the medic square off, it's tense, then suddenly they come at one another. Blows are parried with wrists, kicks with shins, throws are countered into rolls and leg sweeps are dodged. There's something eerily familiar about the way the other guy fights. Before he can remember it, however, the medic spares him the trouble. [Cont]
[23:39] "Shogo Oshi!" He exclaims, and backs off, "I am Lester, of the Black Spider school of martial arts! It is good to see you are as dangerous a foe as was rumoured!" The Black Spiders! Shogo remembers his own sensei teaching him about these dreadful, merciless and honorless assassins so many years ago!
[23:40] BACK ON THE BRIDGE. Jaques is making a mess of the floor, and trying to make his way to the door without slipping because he's still partially blind from the flashbang and now he has brain all over his bootsoles.
[23:41] *Ahem, Mercury. Quick edit to the script.
[23:42] * Jaques rushes to where the medic and Shogo are dueling it out. "MEDIC!"
[23:42] "That'll teach the fucker to call me a wallhacker." He stumbles towards the door, hearing things happening up ahead.
[23:43] * Shogo_Oshi tenses up at the startling revelation, his muscles becoming taut as steel wire and his gloves making a leathery creaking sound as he bunches his fists, curiously audible to any spectators. "Your cran rives without honour, Rester. The ancestors must have shown me to you. I wirr not ret you wark away arive."
[23:44] The badass duel appears to have come to the attention of more than just Jaques and Mercury. Several soldiers on the Canadian ship have climbed as high as they can just to watch it, one of them's even shining the ship's spotlight on the scene. This also helps Marik and Rudolf be noticed less.
[23:44] "Dammit Shogo, he was mine! Fuck you."
[23:45] "Shogo Oshi!" Lester strikes a pose, "There is no purpose to honour, there is only wealth and power!" He raises a fist at Shogo, "Now! Defend yourself!" And he comes at Shogo again, two fists aimed at the old man's ribcage, straight center. Shogo can easily parry it but... oh shit! [Cont]
[23:45] * Jaques tries to locate the staircase the other 4 guys used.
[23:46] The guy was disguising a pair of grenades in there! Smooth cylindrical shapes, rings pulled, pressed into Shogo's hands and then! FLASH! SMOKE! Once Shogo can see again, once the smoke settles. Lester is gone, with only his words ringing in Shogo's ears: "This is not the time to settle our score, SHOGO OSHI. We will meet again, if you can survive the wrath of the Black Spider clan!"
[23:47] * Shogo_Oshi scowls into the horizon, raising his fist into the air. "RESTEEEEEER!"
[23:47] * Rudolf tries to get the poor bugger on his feet, "You go ahead and check the armory."
[23:48] * Marik nods, stepping into the corridor, shotgun forward. There was one butcher here. If there were more... He would find them. He stalks forward, muttering under his breath "His work be done"
[23:49] The armory's empty of people, and it looks like most of its guns are in the hands of the people topside, anyway. Among stuff that's not secured in lockers, Marik can see a silenced 9mm SMG, a box of ten flashbangs and a grappling hook launcher(With rope and hook).
[23:50] More water's starting to flood in as Rudolf gets the guy on his feet and out of the brig. It's almost knee deep now. Seems like whatever damage they did also severely fucked the pumps.
[23:51] * Marik shrugs, graps the grapnel, gun and 'nades, stashing them in his waterproof sack. He then goes to leave, walking down the corridor backwards, as not to be surprised.
[23:52] Mercury is still rather stunned by the flashbang he set off, so only Shogo and Jaques hear the other group of four Canadians approaching from the bow of the ship. Looks like they either got done checking the cargo bay or they heard Lester and Shogo shouting at each other.
[23:54] The two techs are gone, a bloody trail leading up the stairs. Looks like they took Marik's advice and got the fuck out of dodge. Just as Marik and Rudolf slosh through the waterlogged corridor and into the engine room, they hear steps descending the staircase behind them. Possibly guards.
[23:57] * Shogo_Oshi turns to face in the direction of the approaching VPD squad with burning eyes. Not that he was planning to be particularly friendly against them in the first place, but now they are allies of the Black Spider! He unslings his rifle, dropping in between the containers to escape the spotlight.
[23:58] * Marik points his shotgun at the stairwell, finger on the trigger. He calls to Rudy "Get out of here. I follow"
[23:58] * Rudolf looks to the cieling, following the clanging of steps. "Ah, right on time. Listen, I'll go ahead. You deal with the room service."\
[23:59] * Rudolf pops a spare SCUBA into Smith's facial orifices and goes direction exit. "exit". Heh.
Session Time: Thu Jan 14 00:00:00 2010
[00:03] The four Canadians on board the Kihada come out from cover, crouched low and guns at the ready. They're stalking along the side of the ship, looking like they're heading for the grappling hooks they set up earlier.
[00:03] Apparently whoever was descending the stairs wasn't quite dumb enough to keep going once they heard Marik talking, he can hear something... sounds like someone pulling the pin on a grenade.
[00:04] * Shogo_Oshi steps out from between a pair of containers a few rows down, kneeling and opening fire at the four men.
[00:05] * Rudolf picks up the pace, gets out of line of fire in the engine room. "LOOKS LIKE IT'LL GET MESSY IN THERE, GODSPEED!"
[00:06] * Marik starts dashing as fast as fucking possible towards the exit, cramming his auto-shotgun in his bag and diving out.
[00:09] * Rudolf looks on last time back. He then looks at his bag, with a homemade bomb. "Oh to hell with it" He chucks the bomb on the intact side of the ship, setting the remote.
[00:09] * Jaques gets out from cover and starts spraying bullets all over the place
[00:10] AND THEN SUDDENLY. THE GM STARTS WRITING.
[00:10] * Mercury has quit IRC (Connection reset by peer)
[00:11] * recon has joined #crossfire
[00:11] * recon is now known as mercury
[00:11] A bit shaky from his fight with Lester, Shogo takes two shots which hits his targets in the feet, causing them to drop to the ground and be perfect targets for Jaques and Mercury's bullet barrages which shred the four guys. One loses most of his head, another has an arm taken off. It's pretty gory.
[00:12] And just when it looks like things are about to calm down, Rudolf sets off his homemade bomb inches behind himself and Marik, who outswim the shockwave like some sort of badass action heroes. The bomb tears out the remainder of the Maple Leaf's aft hull and it starts going down FAST.
[00:13] * mercury is now known as Mercury
[00:16] From there on it's, relatively, clear sailing. Their radar picks up a much larger Navy ship and some incoming helicopters from the coastline as they start to make their escape, but a mixture of the fog and keeping their own radar passive somehow permits the massive ship to slip away unmolested.
[00:16] * Shogo_Oshi keeps a lookout for any survivors attempting to get onto the ship. Oh, and also Rudolf and Marik, so he can extend some of the left-over grappling ropes down to them.
[00:16] * Rudolf gets the poor Mr. Smith on board, waits for Marik to join, pulls out his hip flask and takes a swig of rum with the Polack, to victory.
[00:21] "So, how does Vitriolic Solutions feel about hiring a full-time jack-of-all-trades?"
[00:22] "hahahha, Marik?" Jaques asks as he pokes around the hole Lester made.
[00:23] * Marik claps him on the shoulder "You do well. We like you. Welcome aboard". He drains his vodka bottle, and hurls it in the air, then dumps his bag on teh floor "Raided their armoury. Grappling hook launcher, rifle and flashbangs"
[00:23] * Jaques takes an inquisitive look. "Flashbangs eh? How many?"
[00:24] "A bunch."
[00:24] * Shogo_Oshi grudgingly admits that Rudolf provided some impressive results. He even goes so far as to give him a western-style handshake.
[00:25] "I hope the sea wolves can get their act togheter and scrape some funds togheter. I'd hate to see them go onder because of accounting."
[00:26] * Rudolf takes another swig, sinking Maple Leaf in the background. "Aye, this was an adventurous evening. We might want to leave before the Leaf's distress signal shows results."one they only knew through MercsList: "m4m plz bring own guns, explosives and/or sea ops expertise." [21:06] "Who placed that ad in anyway? We didn't need anyone last time." [21:06] While they waited for him, they also had a chance to inspect their new property. [21:08] "I still think my rockets could deal with that ship from the shore." [21:09] "It wouldn't work, we need a shaped charge to blast through that hull at all, and a rocket's charge is way too dispersed and not nearly powerful enough. Anyway, I think the loss in XP per party member is acceptable enough to have an extra gun and/or demo expert on hand." [21:10] "I take it that's my cue." [21:10] "But I guess doing this mission is kinda important, did you see that tank the FEL is making available?" [21:10] * Mercury checks his watch and glances around the dock right on time for the new mercenary to show up. "Oh, hi. Okay, what was the passphrase... 'Texas'?" [21:11] * Jaques looks over to Rudolf, taking a deep breath of his smoke. [21:11] "'Texas' it is. Good evening." [21:11] * Marik chugs from a bottle of vodka, and looks the new arrival up and down. He proffers the bottle, by way of greeting [21:11] "Don't mind if I do." [21:12] A dramatic sunset paints the sides of buildings and the surface of the water in vivid oranges and violets. [21:12] "That's not how a challenge works, but screw it, I forget the answer anyway. So, you are in fact the mercenary interested in the job." [21:12] * Jaques seems inspired by the scene and makes a mental note to make a note of it [21:13] "That is correct. I happen to fit the description of what you needed on the internet." [21:14] * Jaques takes another thug of his smoke. [21:15] "Don't die on your first day. You are going in hard to prove ur worth." [21:15] * Marik smiles. He can trust anyone who can take their drink. He offers a hand "Marik, Pleased to meet you" [21:15] * Rudolf introduces self, notes areas expertise, particularly demolition [21:15] "Alright. Uh, let's see. I'm Mercury. What's your equipment loadout, usually?" Mercury eyes the guy up and down for anything he'd find interesting, before being immediately distracted by a passing butterfly."\ [21:16] * Shogo_Oshi remains standing some distance from their new colleague, greeting him by way of a bow. "Wercome, Ruudorf-san," he intones politely, adjusting his glasses. [21:16] "I am not particularly well armed. I normally use an old pistol," flashes Walther [21:16] "We have something inside that you'll want to use." [21:17] "I hope I will not have to use it unless necessary." [21:17] * Marik grins "Old is best, eh?" He draws out a very, very fine magnum, covered with engravings on both metal and wood [21:17] "...Oh. Right, yes, that should do. I assume you brought a demolition charge or two." [21:17] * PurpleXVI is now known as PurpleGM [21:17] "Naturally. It would be impolite to come to a party without a present" [21:17] "I'll go get it, wait here." [21:17] "Nah, we'll all go in." [21:18] * Jaques shuffles inside via the back door, putting out his sigarette as he does. [21:18] * Mercury motions for the team to follow him onto the boat as he gets onto the gangplank for the rather lengthy tanker. "Bring your stuff." [21:18] * Rudolf joins group on their way aboard. [21:18] * Marik lugs his cases- one for guns and armour, one for vodka. It was a long voyage after all. [21:19] * Jaques shuffles back outside with the M9 and heads up the freighter [21:20] * Shogo_Oshi is the last one to board the ship, ever attentive in case there's someone watching them even now. [21:20] If they lead Rudolf to the bridge, they find a small sticky-note attached to the instruments by the Sea Wolf who sold them the ship: "It's bad luck to set out to sea on an unnamed ship." [21:22] "Looks like old naval traditions are still alive after all. Huh." [21:22] * Rudolf picks up the note "Heh, the gentlemen are obviously not yet able and tried seamen." [21:24] * Jaques heads down the first set of stairs he can find and notes the green floors. [21:24] "So, anybody got any ideas for a name?" [21:25] * Shogo_Oshi shrugs, looking around the bridge. "We wait with painting untir rater, yes? For now, the ship is Kihada." [21:25] * Jaques wanders around the interiour, notes that the comm bead in his ear stops functioning after passing a certain mark. He brushes his hands across the wall. [21:26] "'Kihada'? What's that mean in Engli- ooh, they even have a full set of semaphore flags!" [21:27] "Oh my, are there national flags? I always wanted to go to sea under an obsolete flag." [21:27] * Shogo_Oshi turns toward the staircase leading toward the interior decks, intent on getting to know the lay-out as well. "Tuna." [21:27] * Marik thinks for a moment "I no good with names. Only names in polish, and then, no one would understand". [21:27] * Jaques sets himself down and pulls out an HB pencil and some pieces of paper. [21:29] "Huh. That'll do, I suppose. Only national flags here are... Saudi Arabian? I probably don't wanna know, do I." [21:30] "Haha, Panama! We simply must go to battle under this." [21:31] "Anyway, call me on the bead when you need me to start up the engine. I think my new helicopter's abovedecks- a Bell 407, if I heard right. [21:32] * Marik wanders off to find a good drinkingn hole [21:32] * Rudolf makes a serious expression towards the group. "Gentlemen, I have hit the motherlode." Rudolf shows the group the PRoO flag [21:33] * Jaques draws the upper section of the paper. [21:35] A small tab on the side of the PRoO flag says: "Made in China." [21:35] * Shogo_Oshi spends a while walking through the ship's interior, familiarising himself with the deck plan. He deposits his accumulated gear in an appropriately sized cabin, then returns to the bridge afterwards, gazing out at the waves lit by the sunset. He's wearing a Hawaii shirt. [21:35] * Rudolf smirks knowingly while raising the flag [21:36] * Jaques works franticly to put mind to paper [21:37] "Good then, if we've all gotten ourselves accomodated and stred volatile and easily breakable materials in safety," glances at Marik, "someone could explain today's plan of attack to me." [21:37] Reaching the top deck, Mercury lays his eyes upon his brand-new helicopter- the venerable and reliable Bell 407, the AK of the rotorcraft world, still in active production. The outside is coloured in muted naval blues and blacks, with the inside suitably decorated. "Oh, wow. I can't wait to take this for a spin." [21:39] It's a good thing the ship is so heavily automated, or the five of them might never have gotten it out of the harbor. [21:40] "Quite literally the 'fog of war' we have here, eh?" [21:42] * Marik sits at the highest point of the ship, drinking and singing a few polish sea shanties [21:42] * Mercury makes it back onto the bridge. "This'll probably make for close combat- can't see a thing through this fog even with the thermals, it's too warm." He gets to work 'configuring' his M21. [21:43] "Wouldn't want to fly in this weather, either. Probably could do it IFR, but with the opposition around that might not be such a good idea." [21:44] * Rudolf goes to the bow of the ship, takes a swig of rum and join sea shanty in german [21:44] * Jaques heads back up just in time to hear Mercurys comment. "Besides, they have anti-aircraft stuff." [21:44] "If we can, we should steal those." [21:45] "Also, you know where we are heading Mercury?" [21:45] "What, you mean the 40mm? Probably wouldn't even be able to see me in this weather, even if they cought us through radar, or sonar, or lidar." [21:46] "I'm pretty sure they can take out a rather slow copter." [21:46] "And- no, I didn't start the ship up, I was busy with the copter. Wait. I'm here, Rudolf is here, you're here... and... wait, who's piloting this thingN?" [21:47] "And on that note, who the hell started up the engine?" Mercury starts to make a run for the helm. [21:47] "Wait, what? Does it have an AI or something? I read something about that in the news." [21:46] * Marik 's drunken voice comes from the bridge [21:47] * Shogo_Oshi squints into the dense fog from his position on the bridge, having been informed that using active radar might alert their quarry to their presence prematurely. He frowns. "Rooks unsafe to navigate rike this. I shourd go keep a rookout." - He makes to return to his cabin to retrieve his gear and put on a coat. [21:48] * Jaques joins Merc and Marik on the bridge and watches Shogo go down the stairs. [21:48] * Rudolf puts on swimming gear [21:48] "We are going to lose ourself in this thing" [21:49] Marik can hear other voices than his drunken own. It looks like the radio system the Sea Wolves hooked them up with also happens to be able to pick up military communications: "This is the VDFN Maple Leaf calling Coastal. We're spotting something big and ugly on the radar, anything meant to be in our area?" [21:49] "Aw bollocks. Better get started." [21:50] "RUDOLF! Where the fuck are you?" [21:50] * Marik gets on the tannoy "Nearly go time, my friends. [21:50] * Rudolf exits changing cabin, "Ready as can be!" [21:51] * Marik stashes his bags away, wrapping his guns in a watertight bag and pulling on the oversized wetsuit. We're calling them now." [21:51] * Shogo_Oshi heads onto the deck after suiting up and proceeds to the bow. Just wait for the signal." [21:54] "The signal is people shooting." [21:54] * Mercury checks the fancy new radar system to make sure that they're still on a collision course. "Isn't it always." [21:55] "Try to get the VIP back alive. [21:57] * Rudolf puts finishing touches on wetsuit, gets watertight bag with stuff, prepares outside for diving [21:57] "Oh. We're going to send a boarding party over to check for survivors." [21:59] * Jaques Makes star trek alarm noises over intercom for a couple of seconds. [21:59] * Rudolf turns to Marik, "How does your shotgun feel about close quarters?" [21:59] "Couldn't helpmyself." [21:59] * Marik grins "It feels Good" [21:59] "Try not to do that again, it might give away our position and kill us all." [22:00] On the radar, Mercury can see that the Maple Leaf is moving out of the way of the Kihada, apparently not intending to get rammed. It looks to be attempting to get itself alongside the Kihada's starboard side, between it and the coast. [22:00] "Let's go through the soon-to-be breach. I trust everyone will be occupied with the deck." [22:00] * Mercury makes sure his rifle is all set and puts on his thermal goggles , hoping it can see through the fog. [22:00] * Marik nods "Lead the way" [22:00] "Uh, wait, they're changing course. Apparently they don't want to get hit." [22:00] "Correct course, then." [22:01] "Better get a move on guys" Jaques says as he passes the two suiting up. [22:01] * Rudolf is prepared, jumps as soon as Marik is ready [22:02] "Not such a good idea, we'll blow our cover. I'll hold down the boat with Shogo, you guys get a move-on. [22:02] "Let them come, we will be ready." [22:02] "Also, I'd rather not dent the ship." [22:03] * Rudolf drops into the cold wet, dives in direction target hull [22:03] "Oh, and watch out for that fifty-cal, it'll tear you apa- oops. Uh-oh." [22:03] * Marik follows Rudolf, apparently used to falling into cold water while rather drunk [22:06] The Maple Leaf is now rather clearly in view. It looks like a rather boring coastal defense vessel and is sweeping the starport side of the Kihada with a searchlight, someone's on a megaphone: "This is the Maple Leaf to unnamed shipping vessel! Is anyone aboard?" [22:07] During this rather slow pass of the two ships, Rudolf and Marik swim under the dark hull of the Kihada and soon find themselves between it and the Maple Leaf. No spotlights hitting the sea, no gunfire piercing the water to hit them. It seems like they're still unseen. [22:07] * Rudolf gets to work on the hull [22:07] * Marik regrets that, while he is underwater, he cannot drink, and idly contemplates a mechanism which would allow him to do so [22:08] * Jaques holds his head low [22:10] Jaques, Mercury and Shogo can hear the chatter from the Maple Leaf by now. [22:11] * Rudolf gets into safe blasting distance, waits for signal [22:12] * Shogo_Oshi keeps himself to low to the deck, hidden behind a container or ventilation duct, trying to observe when and where the boarders board. [22:12] * Marik gets slightly further away than Rudolf, considering himself a potentially volatile substance with all the booze in his blood [22:13] * Mercury camps in a corner of the helm, Counter-Strike style [22:14] There's a clanging and clatter as grappling hooks go over the side of the Kihada, are dragged back and hook themselves on. Keep an eye out for survivors." [22:18] * Shogo_Oshi stalks after the team heading for the bridge, slowly closing the distance as they near the door leading inside. [Cont] [22:21] As the others shift uneasily behind the medic, he checks Jaques over in a variety of slightly uncomfortable ways, including shining a light into his eyes, "Just unconscious, might be in shock." One of the guys towards the back of the group turns around and looks down the stairs, "I don't like this, it feels like we're being watched... I could swear I heard something behind us." [22:23] * Mercury does his best not to make a sound- he's got no clear shot from here, and judging from the 'sound' Shogo is probably advancing on them. [22:23] While the medic checks over Jaques for any wounds to bandage, the leader starts chattering with whoever's in charge back on the Maple Leaf: "One survivor so far, bridge structure looks empty otherwise, no word from team two yet, they're heading for the cargo bay." [22:23] A couple of silent tacticool movements directs the so-far-silent fourth member of the team towards the bridge itself. [22:31] * Jaques lets his eyes roll and starts twitching [22:32] * Jaques lets his hand flow towards his knife while he twtiches [22:35] Shogo is a wizened, Asian blur that flows like air. The soldier nearest him on the stairs sweeps the barrel of his silenced submachinegun across him, depressing the trigger, but by some BIZARRE TWIST OF FATE every single bullet is deflected by Shogo's katana, smacking harmlessly into the wall. [Cont] [22:36] No such beneficial twists of fate as he dances into the fray, however, the nearest soldier ducks, getting his weapon sliced in half, and Shogo ends up with his sword pressed tip-first against the leader's ribcage, gun barrel pointed at his own torso. [Cont] [22:36] Just at this moment, Jaques decides to start drawing his knife. [22:39] His counter-strike instincts take over as time slows down and everything becomes sharper as he prepares to unleash his distraction- [22:39] "LOL N00B FAG!!!" [22:41] The soldier looks for a moment confused, then suddenly very, very pissed off, "Hey! You're that guy that killed me in Battlefield 5942 yesterday! You're a PIRATE? Wallhacking scum!" [22:42] MEANWHILE, LIKE FIVE FEET AWAY. [22:43] "That wasn't a damn wallhack, I keep telling you that server's modded to have bullet penetration!" [22:44] Jaques and the medic attack at the same time, Jaques rolls out of the way as the medic's knife slams into the metal floor, then retaliates. And then the more audible reply: "...yeah, we found someone." [22:45] OUTSIDE, IN THE WATER. [22:46] * Marik taps Rudy on the shoulder, and points at the bomb [22:47] * Rudolf pushes the button and rejoices at the underwater explosion [22:50] Shogo moves! [Cont] [22:51] He hears the guy behind him starting to move, maybe reaching for a sidearm, a flashbang or his knife. [22:54] * Marik swims towards the hole as fast as polishly possible [22:56] * Rudolf follows, holding on to his bag of goodies [22:58] CLANG, CLANG. Jaques and the medic face off again, knives smacking into each other, a perilous moment where their crossbars jam together and they're all up in each others' faces looking intense. Then they release, twist and slash, backing off as soon as they feel their weapons strike home! The medic has a red line carved across his left cheek, a new scar if he survives, [cont] [22:58] Jaques has a hole carved in his shirt that would've disembowelled him if not for his body armor. [23:00] "Interesting" [23:01] * Shogo_Oshi drops the SMG, rushing to Jacques' aid - he hardly has time to pick off the two dismembered hands still stuck to his sword, lending him a both grisly and comical countenance all at once. [23:02] * Rudolf taps Marik on the shoulder and points at door [23:03] * Marik nods and advances, pulling his shotgun out of his bag, and also a small bottle of vodka, which he takes a swig from, then puts away. Choose" [23:10] * Rudolf waits for the speech to end, then starts counting down from 5. At least one of you has some sense." [23:13] * Marik sighs "I don't particularly enjoy hurting people, but I will" he looks down to the surrendered tech "Help your friend. He might survive. If I see you again, I will kill you. Go hide somewhere". Without another world, he begins walking down the corridor [23:14] * Rudolf checks the two gentlemen for weapons, continues [23:15] BACK ON THE BRIDGE there is badass action to be had. [23:16] "Interesting." [23:16] BACK ON THE MAPLE LEAF. The terrified tech remains on his knees as Rudolf and Marik walk past, neither of them are armed. Once they're past, he rushes to help his friend, who looks like he's pretty badly messed up. [Cont] [23:17] Signs up ahead indicate that they're headed towards the brig, a small clinic for the ship's doctor and an armory. In that order, and on the left, right and left side of the corridor, respectively. [23:18] * Marik thinks "We should check the brig, but we should destroy the armoury. The crew will be less of a threat" [23:18] "I agree. First let's check the brig. If the target is there, go ahead and take the armory, I'll get the objective out." [23:20] * Marik nods, and continues forward. [23:21] * Rudolf covers corridor with SMG while Marik enters brig [23:22] Shogo's 70-year-old heart is pumping furiously, and he leaps out the broken window in pursuit of the escaping boarder. [Cont] [23:22] * Jaques heads out quickly and prepares his molotov [23:22] Smith is sitting in the chair, eyes completely glazed over, but still alive. You call this a torture chamber?" Rudolf walks past the syringes, "and what do we have here?" [23:25] * Rudolf goes to the doctor, checks for vital signs [23:26] Jaques is off the bridge first, heading down the stairs to a ledge with a siderail just below the bridge. Smith?" [23:29] Smith sounds remarkably lucid when he replies, if somewhat tired: "I'm awful, I can't see my own hands. Or should I go for the armoury?" [23:32] Outside, Jaques sends a flaming projectile across the sea and smash into the windows of the Maple Leaf's bridge as a present. Judging by the name on the label, this is one of those highly dubious "truth drugs." [23:34] * Jaques calls out "MEDIIIC, I HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU!" [23:35] A BRIEF MARTIAL ARTS INTERLUDE ON THE KIHADA. [Cont] [23:39] "Shogo Oshi!" He exclaims, and backs off, "I am Lester, of the Black Spider school of martial arts! "MEDIC!" [23:42] "That'll teach the fucker to call me a wallhacker." He stumbles towards the door, hearing things happening up ahead. I wirr not ret you wark away arive." [23:44] The badass duel appears to have come to the attention of more than just Jaques and Mercury. Several soldiers on the Canadian ship have climbed as high as they can just to watch it, one of them's even shining the ship's spotlight on the scene. This also helps Marik and Rudolf be noticed less. [23:44] "Dammit Shogo, he was mine! Fuck you." [23:45] "Shogo Oshi!" Lester strikes a pose, "There is no purpose to honour, there is only wealth and power!" He raises a fist at Shogo, "Now! Defend yourself!" And he comes at Shogo again, two fists aimed at the old man's ribcage, straight center. Shogo can easily parry it but... oh shit! [Cont] [23:45] * Jaques tries to locate the staircase the other 4 guys used. We will meet again, if you can survive the wrath of the Black Spider clan!" [23:47] * Shogo_Oshi scowls into the horizon, raising his fist into the air. "RESTEEEEEER!" [23:47] * Rudolf tries to get the poor bugger on his feet, "You go ahead and check the armory." [23:48] * Marik nods, stepping into the corridor, shotgun forward. There was one butcher here. If there were more... He would find them. He stalks forward, muttering under his breath "His work be done" [23:49] The armory's empty of people, and it looks like most of its guns are in the hands of the people topside, anyway. I follow" [23:58] * Rudolf looks to the cieling, following the clanging of steps. "Ah, right on time. Listen, I'll go ahead. You deal with the room service."\ [23:59] * Rudolf pops a spare SCUBA into Smith's facial orifices and goes direction exit. "exit". Heh. Session Time: Thu Jan 14 00:00:00 2010 [00:03] The four Canadians on board the Kihada come out from cover, crouched low and guns at the ready. "LOOKS LIKE IT'LL GET MESSY IN THERE, GODSPEED!" [00:06] * Marik starts dashing as fast as fucking possible towards the exit, cramming his auto-shotgun in his bag and diving out. [00:09] * Rudolf looks on last time back. He then looks at his bag, with a homemade bomb. "Oh to hell with it" He chucks the bomb on the intact side of the ship, setting the remote. [00:09] * Jaques gets out from cover and starts spraying bullets all over the place [00:10] AND THEN SUDDENLY. THE GM STARTS WRITING. [00:10] * Mercury has quit IRC (Connection reset by peer) [00:11] * recon has joined #crossfire [00:11] * recon is now known as mercury [00:11] A bit shaky from his fight with Lester, Shogo takes two shots which hits his targets in the feet, causing them to drop to the ground and be perfect targets for Jaques and Mercury's bullet barrages which shred the four guys. [00:13] * mercury is now known as Mercury [00:16] From there on it's, relatively, clear sailing. [00:21] "So, how does Vitriolic Solutions feel about hiring a full-time jack-of-all-trades?" [00:22] "hahahha, Marik?" Jaques asks as he pokes around the hole Lester made. [00:23] * Marik claps him on the shoulder "You do well. We like you. Welcome aboard". He drains his vodka bottle, and hurls it in the air, then dumps his bag on teh floor "Raided their armoury. Grappling hook launcher, rifle and flashbangs" [00:23] * Jaques takes an inquisitive look. "Flashbangs eh? How many?" [00:24] "A bunch." [00:24] * Shogo_Oshi grudgingly admits that Rudolf provided some impressive results. He even goes so far as to give him a western-style handshake. [00:25] "I hope the sea wolves can get their act togheter and scrape some funds togheter. I'd hate to see them go onder because of accounting." [00:26] * Rudolf takes another swig, sinking Maple Leaf in the background. "Aye, this was an adventurous evening. We might want to leave before the Leaf's distress signal shows results."
